CREATIVE BRIEF
I was given the opportunity to redesign a book dust jacket of my choice along with the inside page styles using only type
PROCESS
I am quite the Stephen King fan, so of course I chose Pet Sematary. This gave me the chance and the challenge of replicating the eeriness of the story without images. I wanted to recreate the feeling of the woods leading to the burial ground and make it seem as if the reader is entering the story paralleling Louis' entry.
I opted for a hand written script instead of an existing font for the title to portray the carvings on the cemetery's signs and posts made by children. I used upside down crosses as elements of my design to symbolize the unholiness of the soil. I kept this motif throughout the numbering of the chapters. To separate scenes I utilized strokes resembling cat scratches as an homage to the cat who started it all.
